Are Your Tenants Complaining about Noise? Be Vocal on Dec. 11th at DC Council Hearing!

With its diverse and active population, proximity of residences to businesses, urban traffic, and construction, the District of Columbia, especially its downtown corridor, can be a loud place to work and live in. And, while sound is inevitable in cities, levels or types of sound occurring in some parts of the District can be bothersome to both residents and workers, and in some cases can be loud enough to harm health and quality of life. As business and residential associations continue to address noise complaints and help the District balance residential and commercial quality-of-life concerns through a flexible and responsive process, it is important that the District develop a reasonable and enforceable noise ordinance.

On December 11 at 2:00 p.m., the Committee on Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization will hold a public oversight roundtable to address the ongoing concerns residents and businesses have regarding the District’s lack of an enforceable noise ordinance pertaining to buskers (e.g., street musicians). As we prepare for this important Roundtable and identify the top issues affecting AOBA’s members, we would like to hear from members about their interactions with buskers and their concerns about noise. Additionally, we are in search of commercial members to testify to share their experiences.
