AOBA Kicks Off 2024 with Leadership Awards and 50th Anniversary Commemoration

The Apartment and Office Building Associate (AOBA) of Metropolitan Washington held its Annual Meeting, which honored 2023 and 2024 recipients of Outstanding Associate Member of the Year and Sidney Glassman Memorial Awards. 

2023 Outstanding Associate Member of the Year Award 

The Outstanding Associate Member of the Year Award recognizes Associate members for their vision, volunteerism, and impact on the local real estate industry. Larry Edmonds, Account Executive at American Pest, was selected as the 2023 award recipient. 

"Larry has demonstrated unparalleled dedication, innovation, and excellence," said James Fula, past award recipient. "Time and time again, Larry answered the call, engaging with AOBA and working to advance the industry's interests before the state and local governing bodies that comprise the Washington metropolitan region."

Larry has been involved at AOBA for many years as a member of the Associate's Leadership Council, in community services, at maintenance mania, and within advocacy. 

2024 Sidney Glassman Memorial Award

The Sidney Glassman Memorial Award acknowledges outstanding leaders for their career contributions to the real estate industry on a senior management level in honor of the late Sidney Glassman, well-known as Executive Vice President of Charles E. Smith Management, lecturer, and author. The award singles out individuals for their exemplary work in areas of education, training, management, administration, and legislation.

Jackie Duke, past AOBA Board President and recently retired as Senior Vice President of Operations for Brookfield Properties, was selected as the 2024 award recipient. 

"This year's winner started her career 25 years ago, propelled by her adept problem-solving skills, excellent relationship-building abilities, and level-headed, fair demeanor," said Mark Benedetti, past award recipient. "She also participated in several panel presentations, bringing her authentic voice to the conversations around career and operational success."

50th Anniversary Celebration

This year also marked AOBA's 50th anniversary, and members celebrated significant accomplishments throughout the past 50 years. The anniversary milestone was marked with the unveiling of a celebratory logo. 

AOBA also introduced the AOBA Advocates. This elite group of members specializes in advocacy, including serving on special task forces and commissions, writing testimony, providing policy feedback, and speaking to elected officials. View the list of members here
