Meetings: Held on a virtual format for 2021.
Introducing Our Chairs
We are pleased to share that the AOBA Board of Directors reappointed Shawn Kyle of Lerner to serve as the Chairman of the Virginia Government Affairs Committee in 2021. Shawn is joined on the Virginia leadership team by Melissa Steele of E and G Group and Arianna Royster of Borger Management, who will help lead the PAC’s fundraising initiatives as well as our Virginia political giving program going into a significant state and local election cycle.
Save the Date for 2021 Upcoming Meetings
In the coming months, AOBA will also be announcing special programming for AOBA members with Virginia interests to interact with policymakers and learn about state and local laws and regulations affecting commercial and multifamily properties. This will include our popular (and FREE) fire systems training classes as well as our annual landlord/tenant legal seminar and Mayors & Chairs event series. We will continue to keep you apprised as these opportunities are added to the calendar.
Once again, AOBA’s advocacy program has produced meaningful results on behalf of commercial and multifamily property owners and managers that will reduce regulatory burdens and produce a net positive effect for your bottom line. AOBA’s advocacy team recorded a success rate for the 2020 session of the Virginia General Assembly, advancing a substantial proactive agenda of legislation to maintain Virginia as a hospitable environment for property owners/managers and defeating or amending several measures that would have layered additional administrative and cost burdens on your businesses.
METPAC – VA
METPAC is the political action committee of AOBA. It is through METPAC that AOBA determines the candidates that it will support on behalf of our industries and whom it will urge AOBA members to support directly, as well. Each election cycle, METPAC reviews candidates, interviewing them, as appropriate, deciding on endorsements, and then marshaling support among AOBA's membership for the candidates we endorse.
