Hurricane Relief Funds; National Preparedness Month

With the tremendous need to assist hard-hit colleagues in Texas and in Florida, AOBA encourages members to consider donating to the American Red Cross. Your gift to American Red Cross Disaster Relief enables the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters including thousands of victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

In addition, AOBA received a request from BOMA-Houston: To help its members who have lost their homes and belongings in the flood, Houston BOMA has established a Go Fund Me account. The proceeds received will go directly to Houston BOMA members to assist in putting their lives back together. We know the need will be great. Houston BOMA has donated the first $10,000 to the account and it is open to donations from anyone interested in helping. Link:

Also, as many members know, September is National Preparedness Month (NPM). Launched in 2004, NPM is FEMA’s annual preparedness outreach campaign. NPM is sponsored by FEMA’s Ready Campaign. The Ready Campaign aims to educate and empower Americans during NPM and throughout the year to prepare for and respond to all types of emergencies, including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks.

This NPM toolkit includes suggestions for activities and events that AOBA members, businesses, community organizations, and individuals can sponsor to promote NPM. This toolkit also includes templates and drafts of newsletter articles, blogs, posters, and other collateral material that you are able to use in various outreach efforts.

In addition to promoting NPM through its own outreach channels, FEMA Region III is encouraging everyone to get the word out and help the Whole Community prepare for emergencies. This toolkit is designed to provide you and your organization with easy to use tools to promote NPM and help your stakeholders prepare for an emergency in their community.

As part of NPM, AOBA invites members to an Emergency Preparedness Seminar for commercial property management and security professionals on Oct. 5.
