The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part II provides information property and facility managers will need to make management decisions about various building systems and sites. These decisions will increase occupant safety and comfort while facilitating building efficiency to meet an organization’s business goals. This course is about understanding electrical systems and lighting, elevator maintenance and modernization, and pest and solid waste management. Other areas of interest covered in this course include security issues, fire and life-safety systems, and energy management concerns.
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Effectively analyze, manage, and optimize building systems
- Identify opportunities to increase the efficiency of building systems
- Understand the successful management of pests, solid wastes, energy, and security and life-safety systems.
- Evaluate and implement best practices for increasing occupant safety and comfort

Richard Wieland
Richard is a BOMA instructor for over 15 years and teaches RPA and FMA classes throughout the country utilizing the accelerated and on-line formats. Richard over his 40 years of experience has held positions at Department of Defense, Ford, Chrysler and Federal-Mogul along with being the Senior Operations Manager for two manufacturing companies. Richard’s personnel real estate investing experience includes the creation, funding and management of a residential real estate LLC.
