As Washington, DC prepares for the America250 celebrations, property teams across the region must be ready to navigate increased security activity, transportation disruptions, operational complexity, and heightened public visibility surrounding the nation’s 250th Anniversary.

For many buildings, these events will create conditions more comparable to large-scale national security activations than traditional public celebrations.

Join AOBA’s Emergency Preparedness Committee for a timely conversation focused on operational readiness, communication discipline, and risk awareness during one of the most significant national activations the region has experienced in decades. This session is designed to help property teams see around corners before activity escalates across the region.

Featured Speakers:

Bud Denker, President of Penske Corp and Chairman of the Freedom250 Grand Prix, will address the scope of the DC Grand Prix that will take place on August 23-26, 2026 on a temporary street circuit on the National Mall. He will provide an overview of anticipated activity across the region, including major event zones, operational pressure points, federal presence, and what commercial and multifamily operators should expect as preparations accelerate.

Dr. Keith Williams, Vice President of Support Services at Admiral Security Services and former Metropolitan Police Department Commander, will help property teams translate those broader regional impacts into practical building operations considerations for staff, tenants, vendors, and day-to-day operations.

Carlos Mejia, SWAT Lieutenant, Metropolitan Police Department, Washington DC, will provide an in-depth briefing on security readiness in the District, including sharing insights on rapid‑response tactics, situational awareness, and security protocol.

Lindsey Appiah, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice, will provide an overview of the events taking place across the District as part of this summer’s America 250th celebration. In her role, Deputy Mayor Appiah oversees the District’s 12 public safety and justice agencies including key agencies supporting the planning and coordination of these events including the Metropolitan Police Department, DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, the Office of Unified Communications, and the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.
