MD Department of the Environment to Reduce Lead Penalties

AOBA has learned that the Maryland Department of the Environment plans to change procedures and reduce penalties for late-filed annual lead rental registration fees.  The key changes to policy are:

  • MDE will add mailing a late notice prior to assessing any penalty; this will give one additional chance to pay the fee without a penalty (and will go out in late Feb. or early March).
  • MDE will waive the penalty for those that request it be waived and who have complied with the law in previous years.

The penalty will be lowered from $90 to $60 per unit if a penalty is due.
